When the slant-40s were first delivered and used on Queens Blvd, the large full-size front signs (pre-bullet design) had the turquoise background/white E, magenta/white F, white/black S, and blank. On weekends, four-car R40 GG trains ran with blank signs in front. How stupid it was to order cars with huge front signs and then not have the correct display for the lines used and run them blank!When the modified R40s arrived, they had orange/white EE and green/white GG signs (again, full-size signs, but with smaller letters to accommodate the double-letter routes). |
