Arguably, from a pure fairness standpoint, we should be taxing all retirement income at the same rates that we tax regular earned income given that it makes little sense to tax young families in some attempt to subsidize the elderly who already have nationalized income and considerably income support, but at minimum, private and public pensioners should pay the same rates, not different rates. FWIW, if I'm going to pay high taxes, then I want high levels of service from the government, not low levels of service with the rest of the money being going to support retirees who will get benefits that even future civil servants won't get. |
