Yet they are getting more different all the time. The cab signalling & speed control on the 2 RR's are very different. You can't even run an Amtrak diesel on the LIRR without some trouble: there are things like pulse code differences, one being 270 the other 410 (or something like that).

The 2 RR's are only connected via the Amtrak-only Hell Gate and West Side lines.
