And if people are still riding Amtrak, turning the NEC into a busway will not be more cost-effective at all, as you're trying to define cost-effectiveness (most likely the $77 per head for NYP-PHL is designed to keep room on the train for people bound for BAL and WAS; and if you buy online, it's way cheaper than $77 OW); buses that are supposedly more "cost-effective" than trains don't run on busways, remember, so they don't pay the full cost of their infrastructure by a long shot. |
