Somehow reading what has been provided in this message stream, and looking at the map - I don't think supplemental service on other lines will be provided.I note the following: a) the MTA website on this issue wants riders to know that the Q-train terminates at 57th Street-7th Avenue from 11:30 PM to 5 AM - which except for the first hour and a half - the majority of the time that the Lexington Avenue - Park Avenue South shut-down occurs - the Q-train's usefulness is reduced. Meaning that only the N-train really offers an effective "end-to-end" alternative for Manhattan/Brooklyn riders. Riders could transfer to the N-train for travel to both downtown to get near the closed stations, AND to Brooklyn for a transfer to/from #2 and #3 trains to complete their journey. b) The absence of any bus information that might cover the closed stations or nearby areas. For example the Herald Square stations is mentioned as a replacement for the 33rd Street local station - since they are about a 1/2 mile apart. The 28th Street stations are about 1/3 of a mile apart. I suppose all within walking guidelines. It is as if - they are closing the downtown Lexington Avenue stations for this project - but otherwise not making any other changes except extending the #3 to/from Brooklyn, or running the 42nd Street Shuttle all night. Turning the #5 into a Dyre shuttle is simply a usual practice of the MTA - no points there. Suggestions to run the Q-train to Queensboro Plaza, or provide other resources - meaning using more manpower. I suspect one effort is to use as little extra manpower or resources as possible for this endeavor. Just my thoughts. Mike |
