It's been nearly 50 years since a train rolled along this r.o.w., so the argument for a recreational space is hard to ignore. It may be a pipe dream now, but I would like to see subway service restored as was always the idea. At the north end trains could tie into the Queens Blvd. IND local tracks at 63rd Drive, where bellmouths for such a connection were built and still exist. Tranfers to the J train could be provided at Jamaia Ave. (old Brooklyn Manor LIRR station). Since R and M trains only have two more stops going north after 63rd Drive, some could be diverted onto the new route. An R train could travel from Bay Ridge to Far Rockaway - talk about an around the world route! |
