I am amazed at the pace of this project. The project is roughly 3 months behind schedule. But then I always thought their projected completion date was some what optimistic. They are also figuring the project may come in over budget, the changes that are pushing it over budget were made by WMATA and are related to NTSB recommendation. One of the three lifting gantries, the one assembling the elevated over the Capitol Beltway crapped the bed several months ago. The contractor is using a crane to hang the segments in those spans. Fairfax County and the folks living in the neighborhood where the Fisher Avenue traction power substation is had issues with Dulles Transit Partners over the expansion of the traction power substation to accommodate the junction train control room. Dulles Transit Partners wanted to put a second story on the building, the neighborhood objected to that, they are putting the train control room in a building on a piece of property next to the substation that is to small to build a house on.
