Presumably the 1976 map is one intended to show future plans? The yellow and green lines were built much later.

That would be correct, later maps filled in the circles as the system expanded. The map represented the Adopted Regional System (ARS) that was planed to be built.

As I recall sometime in the late 80s early 90s future segments were hashed to identify future much like the Silver line on the draft map.

You will notice that the Yellow line went to two separate Springfield and Franconia stations and the Blue line went to Huntington, several of the station names are different because the alignments and station location were changed before construction, the Southern Green line has one more station compared to the 1976 map.

I presented the maps to show the elegant simplicity of the 1976 map compared to draft 2012 map.
