I'm not sure for other countries, but British EMU are designed with coupling and decoupling in mind. Their 3-car/4-car sets are coupled and decoupled during operational hours (longer sets in rush hours if possible, shorter sets at other times) and that flexibility is built into some of their designs such as end vestibules for Southern region EMUs such as Class 375, which personally I don't find them particularly beautiful even though that supposed to be the apex of British EMU design! |
