They had no choice. Even so, they had to put poles on the 6000-Series married pairs. The 4000s (the "plushies," anyway) came ready-to-run with trolley poles, but they were an exception.

IIRC, the 6000s got poles before it became a heated issue. The 2000s are still sitting dormant with no poles.
