We're looking to clarify some information on the Wikipedia article article on WMATA, in advance of nominating the article for a main-page feature.

What we're looking to clarify is this statement, under "Signalling and Operation":

At switches entering into pocket tracks in a direction reverse to the normal operating dirction, there is a "P Signal", which in its lit state allows the operator to manually set the switch and enter the pocket track.

Any help you all can provide would be appreciated. Also feel free to edit the article as necessary for clarity and accuracy.

The author over simplified the description of the "P Signal".

The P Signal is a single lunar signal that displays the letter "P" and is found at the entrance to some but not all pocket tracks and other selected main line interlockings in the reverse direction of the normal flow of traffic. Below the P signal on the same post is a punch box to allow the train operator to manually set the switch to the diverting direction (reverse) when the P Signal is lit. The P signal is only lit when a train occupies the two track circuit approaching the P Signal and all possible routes into the interlocking are not occupied.

You may use this description verbatim if you wish.

The information is from one of the volumes of the signal maintainers manuals prepared by GRS for WMATA back in the 1970s.

I have no idea if the P signals and punch boxes are still operational. The last time I saw a P signal lit was at the south end of the Farragut North (A02) pocket track interlocking on track A1 on my 25th anniversary trip on the Red Line back on 03 27 2001.
