Chicago had planned a temporary stadium. The IOC rejected the NY bid not solely due to the last minute stadium replacement. If anything, a last minute replacement like that bodes well for an Olympic bid, because lots of stuff can happen in seven years and it shows that the organizers are prepared. Most recent Olympic bids went to major world cities and especially those who had bid multiple times. Atlanta 1996 was actually a fluke as far as Olympic hosts go (it's not in the same class as London or Beijing). NY had no chance on its first try. The United States will never host another Olympics if cities like Tampa or Tulsa are its bid cities. The only way another American Olympics are held is if New York, Chicago, DC or LA again are the bid cities. Maybe also San Francisco. That's pretty much it. |
