About Bowery: aside from being cut in half, there was a mezzanine at the west end that was closed off, but the platform stairs are still there. What makes this unique is that, apparently, the street entrances were part of the buildings' facades, one on each side of Delancey. Though the street stairways have long been cemented over, the archways and maybe even remnants of the light fixtures are still there. The space behind the archways have since been taken over by stores. I haven't been by there in years, but it's probably still like that. |
