ARC's Alternative G would have been brilliant, especially if they found a way to run wires through GCT; send the Acela through there instead of the High Line alternately, eh?)Except that it would have run well into the tens of billions of dollars once reality set in and the costs of the geotechnical engineers to ensure your shallow tunneling under Midtown's skyscrapers was done with the proper shoring. That, or else you'd need a new deep cavern under GCT and a good five miles of tunnel off into the Bronx to do it without disturbing the surface structures. |
