Pt. 2 - West Haverstraw, posted by 3-9 on Sun May 15 23:58:24 2011. The team spurs north of where I stood are all that remains of the small yard that was once there. I believe there also used to be a siding there beyond that clearance sign (STOP/DISMOUNT) but the business there has since either stopped receiving cars or closed down. There is no remains whatsoever of the station, which has been said to have been a fairly sizable building, more so than Haverstraw.I think by today's standard (accounting also for proper track maintenance) that time could easily be cut down, but if you look at the spacing between stations, and also account for dwell time in stations, dodging other passenger trains plus today's busy freight schedules on a railroad with largely single track with passing sidings, there actually might not be that big of a difference unless investment in extensive double tracking is undertaken. |
