Having co-led an informal tour of the Polo Grounds Shuttle Tunnels in 1999 & 2000, I was informed by the Bronx Boro President's office that the tunnel entrances on both sides were blocked up with concrete due to vagrants constantly setting fires. I haven't been back since to examine the area, so I doubt these tunnels are inspected at all now.Similarly, the abandoned Providence freight tunnel was sealed at both ends after some wild parties, with no means of entry for inspection. |
