There are signs are all the MTA Toll Bridges stating the photography and videos are illegal.In reality taking pictures is NOT illegal. The law states that pedestrians and motorists must obey all posted signs. The MTA cops used to cite photographers with "failure to obey a sign". Citing them for "obstructing governmental administration" appears to be a new tactic and an escalation of their War Against Photography. As for whether or not the MTA has the legal right to enforce such a ban is just begging for a challenge by the NYCLU and if they are escalating the charges then it will be worth the effort of someone to challenge them and kick some constitutional sense into the MTA's butt! HOWEVER the photographer in question was NOT taking pictures - he was harassed merely for POSSESSION of a Camera. Is the MTA's position that you cannot use the walkway if you are carrying a camera for use at your destination across the bridge? |
