My grandfather (who spoke English, but who's native language was Dutch) did that too from what I hear back in the 50's. There was a fishing pier that only "Village" residents were allowed to use, and he was just outside of the village boundary. So a cop came up to him to tell him he couldn't be there, and he would just smile and curse at him in Dutch and pretend he didn't understand what he was saying. The cop, after getting frustrated, just threw up his arms and left.... |
