This date in NYC Transit history - December 15, 1940 (70 years ago):

The IND 6th Avenue subway line formally opens for service with these three routes...

"BB" - Washington Heights-6th Avenue Local [168th St.-34th St., rush hours only].
"D" - Concourse-6th Avenue Express [205th St. Bronx-Hudson Terminal].
"F" - Queens-6th Avenue Express [Parsons Blvd.-Church Av.]

IND 6th Ave./63rd St. Line.

Also, on a related note, the "AA" Washington Heights-8th Avenue Local [168th St.-Hudson Terminal, non-rush hours] returns in service after a seven-year "hiatus".
