Hickenlooper Is considered a longshot, but at least doesn’t paint a fall into the horrible Democratic current trait of a Trumpian dystopia.
He is a little more upbeat than some of the other Democrats who have turned into angry muisanthropes, and thius unlikable. But back to the longshot thing, I don't know if the extremists in the Democratic party (which make up a large part now) will back him like they would their other horrible choices like Sanders and Warren, so he probably won't even get out of the starting gate.

Gillibrand is ripe for the picking for the country to reject YET ANOTHER New Yorker. She has the baggage of that. In addition, while she is not right enough to be liked by moderates and obviously the right, she is "too right" on items that many in the Democratic party wouldn't support her on. Another one I don't believe the current state of the Democrats would let out of the gate, but even if they did, would have a not too easy time against Trump.

And Klobuchar just comes off as yet another angry Democrat and has the unlikable problem.

That doesn't make sense. The voters would reject another New Yorker by voting for a New Yorker? And in any event, Trump is full of the stereotypical "New Yorker" traits that you think turn off the voters, Gillibrand is not.

The Democratic Party's supposed leftward tilt is overblown. In a 1 on 1 race back in 2016, there was a moderate option and a left-wing option, and the primary voters overwhelmingly chose the moderate option. Any claims of the primaries being rigged in favor of Hillary are overblown. There's no reason to assume it'll be different this time around.

The redlined neighborhoods in the original FHA maps of the 1930s were not all minority areas. Many otherwise nice areas of S.I. and Queens were redlined because they were either low-lying areas prone to flooding or communities without sewers.

The question was about the candidate’s appeal in the general, so I assumed that was your response.

Note that I disagree with that anyway, Democratic voters are less opposed to New York than Republicans supposedly are given that Democrats have less of a rural slant.

Huh? Where did I claim that he’s not dislikable? I’m just saying that many people who claim that certain people are dislikable, completely ignore that when it comes to Trump. You appeared to be making the same argument when I thought you were talking about the general.

And I explained why I disagree with you about the supposed leftward tilt of the Democrats. Not to mention that the right wing media* have every incentive to tout the supposed left-wing bona fides of the Democrats, in an obvious effort to convince moderates not to vote Democratic.

*“The media that are right wing”, not “the media, which are right wing”.

My one concern would be if the left quickly consolidates to either Warren or Sanders while the rest of the pack sticks with one of each variety for a long period of time: say Harris, Klobuchar, Gillibrand, Hickenlooper, and Castro.

Then the leftist could mop up a whole bunch of delegates with 33% of the vote.

The thing is, I think most of the candidates have appeal to various sects within the Democratic party, but not necessarily all.
That said, i think Booker has wide appeal (I like him too actually, even if I don't agree with many of his liberal policy), however, he is likable. And I think he has appeal to many of the various sects. But in his case, while they all probably like him, he's not the favorite of ANY of the individual sects, as the other candidates respectively eachh have large appeal in one sect respectively.

I realized it wasn't winner-take-all, but I thought that if the breakdown was something like 35-20-15-10-10-5-5, the 35 person would get significantly more than 35% of the delegates.

There's also the risk that if Bernie gets 35% of the delegates the fears of the left sitting out the general might cause the brokers to let him have it anyway. Just remember how much the left whined when he came in second with a minority of the vote. Imagine if he comes in with the plurality!
