So even if the US produced more oil, and had the capacity... it wouldn't make a difference because the price of oil is controlled on the open INTERNATIONAL market. Also 75% of the prices of gas in Europe are in taxes. The US can subsidize the price of gas... and lower it to the .12 cents a gallon in several parts of the world however that will cost A LOT! Also in parts of Europe they sell higher Octane gas than sold in the US like 98 octane. |

Perhaps I didn't state it properly so let me restate it. We only import crude oil. All petroleum products consumed in the USA is refined in the USA. That is in addition to the oil products that we export. Refinery capacity is not the issue. My issues are 2 fold.If all the crude used in this country is produced here, it takes supply disruption off the table. It stops the speculators who feed off world tensions. The onerous federal regulations that force refineries to shut down twice a year to reconfigure their product based on summer and winter blends. Such shutdowns are extremely costly and add as much as $1 per gallon to the price of gasoline. |

You're just making things up.The oil is coming from Alberta anyway. It's just going via rail instead of pipleine. The current pipeline route IS different from most - it goes through a major aquifer. the governor of Nebraska requested a reroute. The Bakken shale oil in ND and MT is being developed quite rapidly. This started during the Obama Administration, by the way. |

Just for the record, US domestic oil is priced on a world market price. If Nigeria stops producing, Pennsylvania crude goes up too. It's a global casino here. If the US were the SOLE source of oil and they grabbed two 5 gallon buckets a day out of Iran, the price of US oil would still go up.The PROBLEM is speculation, coupled with all those closed refineries here. Look it up ... in order to profit, nearly 40% of our production is SHUT DOWN. |

Matters not ... heating isn't included in rents upstate. The only reason why oil-based energy was down at all the past couple of years is because the world economy was in the toilet. That's the ONLY reason for the lower prices before. The trend is up, and will stay up until it reaches for US$8 or better. That means oil is no longer a valid home heating option. That's why we chose a place on gas given where that's trending for the next few years at least.Our NEXT home will be heat-pumped with solar. It works up here. |

You are holding TransCanada's bag. The amount of oil produced doesn't change meaning the price doesn't change whether the pipeline goes through the US or through Canada, except we'll also end up importing food once "America's Breadbasket's" main acquifer become one big Superfund site. |
