Democrats Drop "GOD" From Their Platform

Posted by Train Dude on Tue Sep 4 23:22:48 2012

fiogf49gjkf0d
The democrats have shown themselves to be "Godless" by dropping the word "God" from their platform!

I guess "One Nation Under God" and "In God we trust" have an uncertain future if the obamites are returned to sovereignty.

In other news:
"Democrats have dropped from their platform recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, a move that has opened President Barack Obama to criticism from Republican rival Mitt Romney.
Four years ago Democrats stated unequivocally that "Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel."

Well - his policy on Israel is evolving.

Every administration since 1967, in both parties, had adopted the exact same position on Jerusalem as the DNC. Nothing new about it. I guess the Executive Branch has been ”evolving” on this for the past 43 years.

They did, according to the link you posted. My point is that it doesn't make them Godless. It's one thing to plaster the word "God" all over everything and it's another to actually follow what he said.

fiogf49gjkf0d
Your statement does not contradict mine. The demoncrats still dropped the word "GOD" from their platform. I was not seeking your justification for it as they don't need to justify it to me. However, Lincoln corrected any omission of a Creator in his Gettysburg Address Congress also affirmed it in 1954 when "One Nation Under God" was added to the pledge of allegiance and again in 1956 when "In God We Trust" was adopted as the official motto of the United States. If you object to the word, GOD, however, I'd say you were in the right party.

Well ... since I was sitting on it and have better things to do with this machine, I'll just drop in the proff here:

David Brody reports God's name has been removed from the Democratic National Committee platform.

This is the paragraph that was in the 2008 platform: "We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-givenpotential."

Now the words "God-given" have been removed.

My point is simple, even for you. The omission of "God" from a political document says nothing about the religious beliefs of the authors, nor is it a predictor of the policy positions of the authors relating to faith matters.

fiogf49gjkf0d
Also, they have not been merely removed, which implies someone set out to excise only the word "God-given" and left the rest of the sentence intact. The whole paragrah was completely re-written to emphasize different concepts. As Brody says:

This is the paragraph that was in the 2008 platform:

“We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.”

Now the words “God-given” have been removed. The paragraph has been restructured to say this:

“We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth – the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.”

Brody further points out that there a long section on "faith" that was added:

"Faith has always been a central part of the American story, and it has been a driving force of progress and justice throughout our history. We know that our nation, our communities, and our lives are made vastly stronger and richer by faith and the countless acts of justice and mercy it inspires. Faith- based organizations will always be critical allies in meeting the challenges that face our nation and our world – from domestic and global poverty, to climate change and human trafficking. People of faith and religious organizations do amazing work in communities across this country and the world, and we believe in lifting up and valuing that good work, and finding ways to support it where possible. We believe in constitutionally sound, evidence-based partnerships with faith-based and other non-profit organizations to serve those in need and advance our shared interests. There is no conflict between supporting faith-based institutions and respecting our Constitution, and a full commitment to both principles is essential for the continued flourishing of both faith and country."
