Stormville will get re-lit long before anyone else. But there's where you'll find the info if anyone wants to know. Keep it handy. My guess is that Stormville will be back up just after midnight except for any individual house drops that are on the ground, Fishkill should be back up by afternoon tomorrow unless IBM is out. If IBM is dark, then they'll be back up tonight and screw Stormville.

If IBM ain't sucking electrons, they'll go broke at Central Headache. :)

Derechos are bow-echoes with plenty of rotation in supercells with rotating winds horizontally along the bow. They often spawn tornadoes with enough downward pressure to bend the rotating winds aloft. Microbursts on the other hand are straight downward wind from the chimney of the storm radiating outward in a straight line once the wind hits the ground. Not comparable at all.

Very impressive light show. Not the usual "blink and you'll miss it" lightning. Lightning went off in one cloud, and then set off a chain reaction across the entire sky. All forky cloud-to-cloud, with an occasional cloud-to-ground, and it kept going off for three-to-four second intervals, so you could actually see it clearly.

I'm shocked I was still able to make my station-stops on the (7) line....

Glad I live in Baltimore City. Verizoff can't install FiOS in the city as the first cable company got a "Only One" franchise and every company until 2003 got the same condition. The last one was in the AT&T family and the Feds got involved as AT&T had too many cable companies and they had to sell some. Here's Baltimore City surrounded by a sea of Comcast all around so they bought it for 5.5 Million then discovered they had to put 15 M into it to bring it up to their standards. But they also got the "Only One franchise. When Verizoff wired the county for FiOS they stopped four feet from the city line on my street. My daughter and her husband live in the county (2 blocks away) so they dumped Comcast for FiOS. Nothing to write home about. Verizoff is also playing fast & loose in their ads, they don't say that the FiOS only goes to a box (either on the side if the house or inside) then it's the same coax cable that was already there to the box by the TV. It ain't fiber to the box. Typical Verizoff.

That's how it was designed to work actually. Think of the box at the house as being similar to the cable box that goes on top of the set. Only one channel comes out on the line to the set which is selected in the box. Same deal with what they're doing. It's familiar to folks and besides ... most sets don't have a fiber connector anyway. :)

The box in my daughter's house is in their basement. That's where the connection to the coax (left over from the cable companies) takes over. The Verizoff boxes are different than the cable boxes we are all used to and the display is smaller than the boxes Comcast uses.

BTW, Cable (and Verizoff boxes) are too big to go on to top, plus few people have picture tube TVs any more. Our living room box is in a nice wood & glass box and the bedroom box sits on top of my chest of drawers along with a VCR.

Yeah, Verizoff designed their ONU boxes to pick up the house CATV and telephone pairs since their intent was to use both. They never came out our way in Voorheesville (though they DID put the fiber on the poles in order to collect the revenue for not wiring them up (thanks, NYSPSC) since all you have to do to get paid in NY is to hang shit on poles, there's no requirement to actually wire it up. :(

So we had DirecTV out there and so I built a rack in the basement and put in modulators for the VCR's, DVD players, video server and the two receivers along with RF-based remote control repeaters. So all anyone had to do in any of the rooms was turn on the TV, pick a channel for the device with the remote and then control the device with the remote through a set top pyramid that relayed the remotes back to the rack downstairs. Pretty neat arrangement indeed and all that sat on any of the sets was the little Radio Shack pyramid to pick up the IR from the remotes and transmit it downstairs.

My daughter and son-in-law have a standard telephone drop wire, plus the old Caltech & Comcast cable plus the FiOS fiber that goes into the box in the basement that has a cable output that is hooked into the old cable that Andy's deceased mother had put in when she got Caltech cable years ago.

Verizoff doesn't do new installs right. They used Andy's dead mother's name on the account even though he initiated the install. Sheesh!!!!

I suspect Maryland's PSC has the same number, back into the 1970's when it was the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company, part of the Bell System. When My Wife and I moved back to the house I grew up in in 1983, C&P had just been ordered by the PSC to allow anyone who knew telephone wiring to do it, not just C&P folks. A good long time friend of mine who all the tools and I rewired the phone lines, putting phone jacks and wall phones in every room (on three floors) except the bathrooms (Bell System practices forbade standard phones in bathrooms due to the 92 volt ringing current. Drop the phone in the bathtub (with water in it) while it rings and bye-bye user.) Today Verzoff lets everybody with tools do it (for a hefty price) with the lots of portable phones today you can have a phone in a bathtub (but don't drop it in the water). Potables are cheaper than ever, we just replaced a 3 portable system with a 4 phone portable system for less $$$ that the old system.
