Obamacare support jumps 6 points - now even split

. . .in wake of SCOTUS ruling

TPM

Americans are now evenly split over the Affordable Care Act, according to a new poll released Tuesday.

In the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, 47 percent say they support the measure signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2010, while 47 percent are opposed. The health care overhaul has gained support since the ABC News/Washington Post survey in April, when 53 percent were opposed to “Obamacare” and only 39 percent supported the law.

There’s a comparable split when it comes to opinon of the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act: 42 percent approve of the court’s ruling, compared with 44 percent who disapprove.

HEALTH CARE – On another issue, health care, the candidates’ best path is unclear. While Obama shows no advantage on the issue, his law itself has gotten something of a boost –

Americans now divide evenly on it, 47-47 percent, support-oppose. It was 39-53 percent in April, before the Supreme Court upheld the law’s individual mandate.

Good to see it's becoming a non-issue that will only harm the republicans. Saw another mention about it.....seems Boner's buddies are having a hard time keeping their own together for another pointless waste of time and taxpayer money repeal vote, that isn't going to see the light of day once filibustered in the Senate.

That's because they have nothing to replace with, being that ACA is the republican plan to begin with.

I think repeal will still pass the House this year and again in January. But even if the Republicans take the Seante and the Presidency I wouldn't be so sure of Susan Collins.

fiogf49gjkf0d
Repeal & Replace is impossible because there is no "Replace"

Firstoff, Obamacare IS a Republican plan that got no Republican votes, since it transcends from Romneycare and Dolecare, WITH the Mandate as insisted upon by the Heritage Foundation in 1993 to combat the freeloaders in the Emergency Rooms and Hospitals.

Secondly, cherry-picking the popular parts of "26-year-olds" and "no pre-existing condition" discrimination sans Mandate is actuarially/mathematically impossible. The risk pool isn't there for an for-profit insurance company and it isn't going to happen unless there is a Public Option or Single Payer System.

Repeal and replace is no longer a practical option. There has to be surgical repair of that which is viable and excise that which is not. I think that the Republican platform will move in this direction and continue to push the failed economy as its major "silver bullet".

That wasn't it. They expected Obama to wave a magic wand and make unemployment go to 5%. It's impossible. This was not a business cycle recession - it was a financial collapse spurred by a real estate collapse. It will take 10 years.

Spain's government was running surpluses until a few years ago when their real estate market collapse.

The element of society flooding ER's for free services still won't pay in 2014. They will get it for free.

fiogf49gjkf0d
You don't get it. The people forced to "flooding ER's for free services" first of all do NOT get free services, all they do is stabilize their condition (which is what is legally required) and send them home. They don't even set broken bones, aircasts merely stabilize a break and relieve pain until properly set.

Once ACA is going in 2014, all those people will be able to get medical care in a doctor's office, which means most won't need to head to the ER....chronic conditions will be mitigated through ongoing treatment...read the linked article to find out why people with Type 2 diabetes will get treatment OUTSIDE of emergencies, and that such treatment PREVENTS ER visits to begin with.

Don't think for a minute it is just the "element" or "those people" in the ER. If and when your job gets exported to India or China, or simply get excessed, you go on Cobra for 18 months, and then you get nothing or it will cost $8K a year if they don't refuse you.

Sooner or later you will have to pay for something expensive because you are not immortal. Colonoscopies start at $2,000. You could break a wrist very easily. You should be getting a blood analysis annually. When , not if , you (and everyone else) gets a stroke, heart attack, or cancer, once you run your assets down to zero, you will declare personal bankruptcy, which is basically debt forgiveness, because lack of health insurance is the leading cause of it, and then we will all subsidize your debts.

That's why it has to be mandatory.

I won't get anything for free. I would have to pay. Under Obamacare, I will have to buy insurance or pay a fine. If something happens I'm still on my own. Only difference is that in 2014 I'll pay a special tax for taking the risk.

Hope not but could happen.

You don't have to do anything. There is no fine and there is no mandate. Never was. If there were, the SCOTUS would have found it unconstitutional and five Justices explained why.

Only difference is that in 2014 I'll pay a special tax for taking the risk.

No you're not.

Taxes are rising by 2.5% for everybody.

What you are doing is turning down a tax deduction of equal amount plus more tax credits on top of that.

This has been explained to you time and time again, most recently by Chief Justice John Roberts yet you continue to get your info from Hate Radio.

Doctors can have a price for cash and one for insurance companies just like a gas station can have a differential between paying cash vs. credit.

Most doctors I've been to in Florida have charged the full rate. Dentists too. About $150 per visit and about $125 per cavity.
