Millions of boys and girls play soccer in this country.more than in any other sport. Any young girl (and most boys) who play soccer know who Rapinoe is. They may not know who Andres Iniesta or Andrea Pirlo are but they know Megan Rapinoe (just like they knew who Mia Hamm was before that). They woke up yesterday with the knowledge that such a fantastic and popular athlete that they look up to is gay. They now know that when their parents or coaches were wrong when they told them that homosexuality is incompatible with team sports. Today, because of this, some young gay kid has put aside thoughts of suicide or giving up on something he/she loves to do. Megan Rapinoe has saved lives. |
