It became a scandal some years ago when it was revealed that students went through the entire New York City school system and graduated from LaGuardia College without ever learning becoming proficient in English. You cannot be expected to become proficient in the dominant language of your country when you are getting continual reinforcement of your birth language by taking general education courses in it. At the same time you are squandering the youthful years of young ESL students, the time when it is easiest to learn a new language You continually cite the Liberal cant of 10-20-30 years ago as though nothing has happened to cast doubt on, or demonstrate the failures of, these theories over the ensuing decades. |
