I grew up as a liberal-cum-socialist, and I would say that liberalism as I understood it has changed at least as much as I have.Libertarians call themselves classic liberals and I see their point. To me Hubert Humphrey was a classic liberal. So was Jefferson. Some politicians who style themselves liberals or progressive these days would be unrecognizable to Jefferson or Humphrey. Going the other way, changing times haven't induced me to believe Joe McCarthy was anything but the pond scum I thought he was 60 years ago. I'm neither doubting you nor ridiculing you for calling yourself a pure liberal, I'm just saying that isn't as simple a designation as it may be seemed in the past. |

And personally, I grew older and had to deal more with the real world and less with the theoretical world, and the betrayal by liberals of people and issues of importance to me. |

Where do you see this as exclusionary?Redress of grievances is one of the pillars this nation was founded upon. It was the fact that King George, way back when did not do so became one of the forces motivating our founders. Modern conservatism has devolved into a regime of blindly followed dogma. They have no interest in the redress of grievances. In fact, they're creating them.....look at Willard's healthcare "plans", they intend to remove people like me from accessing healthcare insurance (ending ACA Bridge Plans) and *eliminating* opportunity to purchase healthcare insurance *period*. Is this inclusive? |

It is not the place for private schools to demand or receive public tax monies to support their enterprises.What about the parents that want their neighborhood school to provide that world-class education? Shouldn't they have the right to that, regardless of what neighborhood they live in? (This BTW, is what most parents want) The only people looking to take from"poor white trash" are the people they keep electing. If they'd wise up and vote for that which is in their own interest they'd be much better off. |
