I was almost named "Eric".

It came down to Eric and my eventual name.

My brother chose.

You're too old-fashioned. Names have changed and white people are finally more free-thinking and adventurous with names.

Adventurous ?

Like the late Frank Zappa naming his son Dweezil and daughter Moon Unit ?

I think parents should demonstrate common sense when naming a child.

Amber, Ashlee, Britnee, are the kinds of names a girl would use when creating a name for a career in pornography, stripping, or for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.

Shellie? WTF? Not criminal like the parents who named their kids Adolf Hitler but

It's not the kind of name guys like us from Queens and Brooklyn would be familiar with unless we're into porn, strip clubs, or ladies wrestling.

It began to be used as a given name in the late 19th century, but it only became popular after the release of Kathleen Winsor's novel 'Forever Amber' (1944).
