She was driving a stolen car--the same one she was suspected of carjacking at gunpoint a couple weeks ago--plus, she had eight priors, AND she was tearing up the streets with total disregard for human life, in her attempt to escape arrest. It's a shame she died fighting with the cops, but then, getting caught red-handed was a situation of her own making. I actually agree with the cops this time. |

Link to the Daily News Story and Channel 11 VideoWell given that she had a record of only eight arrests and she was due in court this morning on kidnap and murder charges, it stands to reason that she was out on bail in a stolen car. The candles placed at the scene were very touching, indeed. |

If this woman was a "sweetie pie", as her aunt characterized her, I'd hate to see what a stone-cold b*tch looks like. Carjacking, possession of a stolen car, kidnapping, attempted murder, reckless driving, felony eluding, PLUS attempted murder AGAIN (of the cops who were trying to arrest her, while she was trying to run them over), PLUS eight priors, three of them since January...that's the scariest "sweetie pie" I've ever heard of! |

There was indeed initially some typical hysteria over "another unarmed black person killed by the police", but it has since subsided. Just the usual..."She was unarmed!" "She wasn't a threat!" "There has to be a better way!" "Our children are dying at the hands of the NYPD!" |

Once they realized that this woman was a career criminal! I wouldn't be surprised if she was fleeing yet another crime scene. Had she survived, this is what you could have added to the charges she was facing:3 more counts of attempted murder (2 of cops) Vehicular assault Assault with a deadly weapon Excessive speeding Grand larceny (Possibly) driving under the influence. Had she survived, she would have been looking at potentially an effective life sentence. |

If she had somehow survived to stand trial, if convicted of everything, she would have been sentenced to at least a century in prison. She's probably better off dead. |

By 1971 the area was plagued with numerous robberies and more serious crimes. I particularly remember an incident in which a holocaust-survivor candy store owner was shot dead during a robbery by thugs. IIRC that was on Church Avenue. |
