It's jailed far more than it's freed. And Hill went to prison later for additional crimes after the events depicted in "Goodfellas". |

IMO, GoodFellas SHOULD have won Best Picture, but instead, lost out to the overrated Kevin Costner film, 'Dances With Wolves'. I could never understand what people were thinking on that one, but maybe that's just me... |

Goodfellas did not do gangbusters at the box office. I never saw it in it's original run, only on VHS in 1991. While it was profitable (cost $25 million, earned $47 million) it was no "blockbuster". This is a movie that just gets better and better the more you watch it. |

To add, I absolutely hate mafia movies, because they end up glorifying the institution. This movie stripped off that veneer and portrayed the soldiers of the street mafia for what they were: violent, uneducated scumbags who would turn on each other the minute they had to. The real story of the Vario gang and Henry Hill is even more scummier than this movie made it appear. |

It is glorified, but the way the story was told, made it all the more compelling to watch. There's a lot more to the Mafia than what you see on films. Same thing with the cocaine drug wars. |

Sorry Fred, I hate to veer off topic, but I beg to differ. I know I'm in the minority on this, but one thing I didn't like about the film, was Mary McDonnell's Stand With A Fist character. A woman raised by a tribe, DOES NOT have a hairstyle looking like that. Also, Dunbar (Costner) knowing how it's like to be a member of the tribe, didn't move me enough to buy it. He's not a bad actor, but I think this film gets too much credit. Too much for me. Again, that's just my opinion. |

And Goodfella's had no inaccuracies or Hollywood extra stuff added? That's a weird reason to not like a movie considering every movie has something similar wrong with it. Personally I didn't like it because I didn't like the story nor Kevin Costner. |
