Unreasonable Left Wing Teacher Attacks Student for Questioning About Obama

A high school social studies teacher in North Carolina was suspended Monday for telling a student he was not allowed to disrespect President Obama and could be arrested for speaking ill of the commander-in-chief.

Tanya Dixon-Neely, a teacher at North Rowan High, was suspended with pay after a video of the incident went viral over the weekend, prompting an investigation by school officials.

The video was apparently recorded by a cell phone camera set on top of a desk. It shows the ceiling of the classroom but captures the audio of the argument.

The war-of-words began with students comparing Obama and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. One student pointed out that Romney bullied a student while in high school. Another student, Hunter Rogers, pointed out Obama said he bullied someone too.

After hearing the student criticize Obama, Dixon-Neely seemed to get very angry and scolded the boy.

“As a teacher, I’m not supposed to allow you to disrespect the President of the United States,” she said.

“I wasn’t disrespecting, I asked a question,” responded Rogers. “All I asked was did Obama bully someone.”

The argument went on for several more minutes, with neither the teacher or the student willing to back down, the video indicates.

“They cannot take away your right to have your opinion or your freedom of speech. They can’t take that away — unless you threaten the President,” said Rogers.

He said people talked negatively about Bush all the time without consequences.

“Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things about Bush?” the teacher responded. “As a social studies teacher, I cannot allow you to slander any President in here. Past or current.”

The video circulated the Internet over the weekend. The number of views jumped from 1,000 on Friday afternoon to 700,000 by Tuesday.

The Rowan Salisbury School System is continuing to investigate the incident, WBTV reported.

School officials released a statement Friday.

We expect “all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom,” the statement said. “This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students. Due to personnel and student confidentiality, we cannot discuss the matter publicly.”

The school system was alerted to the video last Tuesday by a man identifying himself as a former Rowan Salisbury social studies teacher. He said the video captures a type of “bullying” and “verbal abuse” that is commonplace in the school system, reported the Salisbury Post newspaper.

Appearing with his mother Gina on Fox News Tuesday, Rogers said he wanted to laugh when the teacher suggested he could be arrested for criticizing the president.

"She doesn't want to hear anything but what she believes, and ... if you disagree, you get berated and put down," Rogers told Fox. "I just decided to finally get some proof of it."

The boy’s mother said she didn’t realize how extreme the teacher’s scolding was until she heard the recording.

"This teacher is responsible for teaching my child and hundreds of others and she is not teaching them factual information," she told Fox.

On Monday several students defended Dixon-Neely, saying she is a “good teacher” who “cares about her students,” WBTV reported.

An expert on politics at Catawba College told the Salisbury Post that the social studies teacher simply doesn’t have her facts straight.

The student already transferred---how do I know that the teacher's voice is actually a teacher and not say, the student's mother or girlfriend? That the parents transferred the kid out to me means that they have something to hide.

I'll wait until it's authenticated.

Go back to Nazi Germany, Nazi. In our country we have free speech and aren't arrested for such, as this lying deadbeat of a teacher was claiming. For her to even insinuate such things is reprehensible. She doesn't belong in a classroom.

Even if what she was saying was true (most of which wasn't), you don't interact with students in that manner. Extremely unprofessional, she's supposed to be the adult.

Furthermore, people were NOT arrested for speaking out against Bush, the kid was NOT slandering the President (merely asking about an item in Obama's own book, an inconvenient tidbit the teacher didn't fit in with the teacher's agenda). And yes, it's indoctrination. She was trying to pass HER personal political views onto her class. She was the one pushing the nonsensical bullying crap the Democrats are trying to push about Romney, and the kid brought up an inconvenient tidbit about Obama the teacher didn't like, so she went on an unprofessional, political rampage.

Wow, I'm impressed. You found ONE incredibly unprofessional teacher in the entire United States.

This is not news any more than one incompetent anything is news.

Then you extrapolate from this one person (and there are hundreds like her that you don't know about) to say this is a systemic problem nationwide.

I think you forgot to pay attention when your teachers taught you to draw conculsions from available evidence. or else maybe you had a string of bad teachers who didn't teach it to you.

The school caved into pressure there to suspend the teacher. If I were principal, I would have protected the teacher better until it's authenticated.

Uhm, the video, as well as the fact that the school acknowledged the whole thing, not to mention the teacher was suspended with pay, etc.
