Yup. You want Zimmerman to be the "victim" here so badly it makes my back teeth hurt. Only in your strange world, could the alleged presence of weed in Trayvon's system justify, in any way, Zimmerman chasing this innocent child down and killing him.

Wrong. Even if he was completely stoned and stumbling around (which he wasn't), it doesn't change the fact that he was hunted down (as the dispatcher told him to wait for the patrol car...he didn't, a choice that was solely and clearly Zimmerman's) by a vigilante (as evidenced by his exchange with the dispatcher).

If he was actually stoned at the time, that would make him LESS inclined to be confrontational with Zimmerman and far less likely to just jump him as Zimmerman claims.

Sanford Police: Trayvon/Zimmerman Encounter Was 'Avoidable'

Posted by JayZeeBMT on Thu May 17 17:56:57 2012, in response to Re: Oh my: Trayvon Martin had drugs in his system, autopsy finds, posted by dand124 on Thu May 17 17:29:25 2012.

Even the Sanford, FL police department, in their own report, say that Trayvon Martin's death could have been prevented if "[George] Zimmerman had remained in his vehicle and awaited the arrival of law enforcement". In other words, Zimmerman took matters into his own hands and because of this, Trayvon Martin is dead. What more "publicly available evidence" do we need beyond that, to show what caused the deadly outcome of the incident?

that doesn't mean the Zimmerman is guilty of any crime. it's possible that Zimmerman asked martin what he was doing and Martian responded with a physical attack, i'm not saying i think that's what happened but it could be what happened. it seems clear to me that Zimmerman is a power drunk jerk but i haven't seen any evidence that he did anything illegal.

"No evidence he did anything illegal"?

Do I really have to go through this again?

Zimmerman:

Despite being told NOT to follow Trayvon, or exit his vehicle, this untrained, unstable individual got out of his car, armed with a gun, and accosted Trayvon, who was breaking no law, and walking exactly where he was supposed to be.

Chased Trayvon on foot, (consider that the 17-year-old Trayvon had every legitimate reason to run from this strange adult male, who was pursuing him for God knows what reason), and engaged in a physical altercation with the boy, one of Zimmerman's own making.

Used extreme, point-blank, deadly force to shoot and kill Trayvon Martin, after taking matters into his own hands, rather than waiting for the professionals he himself summoned to handle the situation.

I wholehearetedly agree with the prosecutor, that the elements for second-degree murder are present in this case.

there's no evidence that Zimmerman is the one who initiated the physical confrontation.

REALLY? What about the ongoing telephone conversation between Trayvon and his girlfriend, in which he tells her he is being followed, and she advises him to run? Pretty hard to start a fight if you are running away from someone, isn't it?

A few more items:

Trayvon's body was found more that 100 YARDS from where Zimmerman's truck was parked. If Trayvon wasn't trying to avoid Zimmerman, how did his body get there?

Zimmerman is known to have accosted the boy. He may have even brandished the gun. In any event, it's unlikely in the extreme that Trayvon would have started this incident, or the altercation that resulted in his death.

It's funny how you think you know more than the prosecutor who saw fit to charge Zimmerman with murder.

No it means he smoked pot, like a lot of teens, black, white or yellow. I don't condone pot smoking but...

It doesn't carry a death sentence so we're still gonna have to wait until the trial to see why Zimmerman went to accost Martin and put himself in a position where he had to [I'm guessing] defend himself.

I know this will probably go ignored but it's kinda hard for a lot of people to treat a guy with a loaded gun as an underdog against an unarmed dude, at first blush.

If Zimmerman had stayed in his vehicle and left Trayvon alone, none of this would ever have happened. Zimmerman started EVERYTHING the second he decided to ignore the 911 operator's instructions, and follow, pursue, and accost Trayvon Martin.

Also, NBC displayed a Xerox copy of a picture taken by police shortly after arriving on the scene, that showed Zimmerman had a bloody nose.

Dan is right. Unlike you on this case, he is being reasonable. (And this coming from someone that has NO sympathy for cops, his past posts more than show that). You on the other hand are being completely unreasonable, want this tragedy to be only one thing, something to promote permanent victim status. I have never defended Zimmerman, but I also don't have him tried and convicted without the benefit of trial, as you do.

That's untrue. Some people even have induced panic attacks under the influence of pot. There are many people that are "happy drunks", and there are ones that are "nasty drunks". The same is true for pot. Some people withdraw under pot into their own worlds, others get laid back, and others get panicky, other's lose inhibitions and get confrontational.
And yes, it can and does make people unreasonable.

I'm by no means an expert on the subject but we were taught when doing our "reasonable suspicion" training, that some of the side effects of marijuana can be panic attacks, hallucinations and even paranoia. Of course not all people exhibit these symptoms and some exhibit them without drugs but the use of a drug that can alter behavior might certainly be an issue that the defense will try to exploit.

I agree that it can cause those symptoms as I've had similar exposure as you but my point is that it doesn't make one confrontational as a rule. I agree the defense will make the most of it unless it's found that Zimmerman was medicated in any way; then they'll avoid bringing it up.

But those symptoms are very real, and DO happen. It's not always that laid back "high" that most think of with pot. If you have too much, certain types, or hash, people can and DO get panic attacks, anxiety, and the like. It DOES make people unreasonable.

That's fine. But pot doesn't always cause that laid back high that it's know for. If too much THC, people can get severe anxiety, panic attack, and even the feeling that they are dying, which makes the panic worse, and the person unreasonable.
Not saying this happened. Not saying it happens all the time.
