Miami-Dade Fire Captain Brian Beckmann was demoted to the lowest rank of firefighter after a two-hour administrative hearing and will have to submit to a psychological evaluation and take diversity training courses before he can rejoin the ranks, reported CBS 4 News in Miami. Beckmann, a 15-year veteran, sparked outrage when he posted last month on his Facebook page about the Martin case. His remarks were in response to State Attorney Angela Corey’s decision to file second-degree murder charges against George Zimmerman, the 28-year-old accused of fatally shooting Martin as he cut through his Florida condo complex in February. The killing of Martin, an unarmed black teen who wore a hooded sweatshirt, sparked nationwide protests over racial profiling. “I and my coworkers could rewrite the book on whether our urban youths are victims of racist profiling or products of their failed, s---bag, ignorant, pathetic, welfare dependent excuses for parents, but like Mrs. Corey, we speak only the truth,” Beckmann posted. “They’re just misunderstood little church going angels and the ghetto hoodie look doesn’t have anything to do with why people wonder if they’re about to get jacked by a thug,” he wrote. Beckmann said he had copy and pasted the message, and later apologized for its content. “I promise that I will try harder than ever to be a decent and professional public servant to the citizens of Miami-Dade County,” he reportedly wrote to Miami-Dade Fire Chief William Bryson. But Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said Monday that public employees writing “disparaging” comments about others in the community won’t be tolerated. “There’s no such thing as being off-the-clock; we are public servants 24/7 and must conduct ourselves with the utmost professionalism at all times,” Gimenez said in a statement. What is really bad about this, both parents are NOT "wefare-dependent" individuals as Mr. Beckmann characterizes them to be.Yep, and ironically, Trayvon's mother is also a Dade County employee (works for the Housing Authority, but she is currently on leave due to all the hoopla (some of her co-workers kindly donated some of her leave time to her), but she plans to return to work eventually). I don't know what Trayvon's father does for a living. |

The rumor was that one prolific poster on Subtalk was demoted from his supervisory position to a car cleaner for some imprudent comments that he made on Subtalk regarding one of his bosses. While that may have contributed to it, the truth was that he also sent a string of harassing e-mails to that same boss.On the other hand, my bosses knew that I posted on Subtalk and here and never had any issue with content except when I posted my explanation of "Fratostatic Yaw Damping" which seemed to spread like an Arizona wild fire & the report of the R-32s being sold to the Nigerian National Railway, which ended up being believed in one unit. We won't even talk about the shit storm from the story about the radiological/biological sensor that was accidentally lost when the wrong car got reefed. |

No - that was when we Railman and I decided to revive the story. The original story was posted many months before. A few weeks later I was at a meeting and we were discussing some issue and a suggestion was made to remove otherwise unavailable parts from the scrapped R-32s. One of the engineers at the meeting expressed his concern because he heard that the cars were being converted to coaches shipped to Nigeria. |

In a very narrow sense, he made the comment about 2 very specific people wo could have legal remedy. However, that comment could also be used to show his mind-set about an entire race given the actual truth about their employment. It certainly would not help his ability to perform his duties and I feel that there is some justification for the disciplinary action. |
