Nothing needs to be said. The correct question is the following. What is their impact on the earth as a whole compared to generating the same amount of energy with:

Coal?
Gas?
Oil?
Nuclear?

Will you listen to yourself?

Any warming caused by windfarms is on a extremely micro basis. It's also temporary, and is the result of already warmer air aloft (it is NOT creating any, or providing any means to maintain heating) being stirred into its downdraft. It is NOT lasting in any way shape or form. It also only applies to the immediate local area. Farmers use the same techniques to mitigate/minimize frost damage to crops.

It is NOT, I repeat NOT causing any widespread, large scale climate abberation. Not like pouring carbon (which enables heat retention) into the atmosphere on a global basis in immense quantities is capable of.

Then again, check the source and save yourself 2 minutes.

{giggle} No. It is a well known fact. When you stir up the air, the warmer air aloft raises the surface temperature as it's pushed down. It's not unknown.....the technique's usually done with helicopters to keep oranges from freezing in Florida, and apples (they bloomed early, maybe as a result of REAL global warming?) from the same fate in upstate NY, just last night. It's an entirely local phenomena, and doesn't affect anything beyond the area where the windfarm physically is. You don't know this?

It has been investigated. You just don't like the answer.

PS. Just because wind farms cause less overall warming than other forms of power generation doesn't mean they are perfect. They have lots of flaws. But you want to totally demonize them and say that everything about them is bad, not just some things. And that's just bad science on your part.

I believe that the Earth is warming but I don't believe the cause is man-made. I think the Earth is warming because we are in a warming cycle. A previous warming cycle ended the Ice Age.

And if you want to quote scientists, fine. How many of these scientists were also panicked about global cooling in the 1970's?

Just because some scientists are panicked doesn't mean almost all scientists are wrong.

The earth was cooling up till 1970. Other factors were overcoming the effect of increased CO2 buildup.

Excuse me for working all evening, and not having the time to log onto subchat within 3 hours of your post at your whim.

In any event, I don't find spending billions of dollars on something, and then finding out the flaws to be productive either. And it's not the first time, millions were spent on solar energy companies that went out of business with months of that investment too.

I totally understand we have to break our dependence on just oil, but spending billions on the unknown isn't efficient either.

There is no need to subsidize profitable large oil companies. Those funds should be going to alternative energy research, with the caveat that those receiving the grants show the results of their work, even if it's failure. Proposals must be within scientific reason. This way big energy companies can't simply apply for and then bury the money unaccountably.
