Overall, you're probably right, however you need to consider the atmospheric carbon levels are accelerating what would be a slower natural process. In other words, it's probably not entirely anthropomorphic, but we're not helping things either. |

Still laffing about the Daily Beast getting Newsweek for a song. If they had taken Newsmax's offer, they'd be in better shape, but ideology trumped common sense. |

I just don't put much stock into their scientific proof of man-made warming, because scientists were also fairly certain that the Earth was cooling in 1975. Can't have your cake and eat it too.Have you ever taken a logic course? If you had, you would understand that the following statements are not inherently contradictory. The earth was cooling in 1975. Humans are increasing the level of CO2 in the atmosphere. All other conditions being equal, a higher level of CO2 in the air causes the earth to be warmer. |

That may be so; however, it would seem to me that if atmospheric carbon levels are the issue, then scientists should have been more afraid of global warming in 1975 than today. The world in 1975 was absolutely a dirtier place than it is now. There were precious little smog regulations in place on any level of industry; air pollution was rampant in the bigger cities; the installation of the catalytic converter, the most significant pollution control device to be placed in an automobile, was not mandated until 1974, over fifty years after the automobile went into mass production.I don't think you can argue that the world today is a cleaner place than it was in 1975. Yet the big fear then was that we would all freeze to death. Where was the fear of carbon levels then? |

The world in 1975 was absolutely a dirtier place than it is now. That's a western-centric view. There were far more particulates in the air from burning coal in western cities back then. In the west, the particulates have been removed from power plants and car exhaust but the CO2 has not. In Asia, both particulates and CO2 have increased incredibly. |

Two, in fact, when I was in college. I aced both of them, thank you.Are you suggesting that the amount of carbon in the atmosphere has increased so exponentially since 1975 that all thoughts of global cooling have vanished and we are now being threatened by global warming? |

I am suggesting that the countervailing forces that caused global cooling despite the increasing CO2 in the 50s to 70s have died down. What is so hard to understand about that? |

Sulfur Dioxide and the particulate matter that results from it. Here in the US emissions of this gas have plummeted since the government began regulating and requiring the installation of catalytic converters. It's a clear example of a successful implementation of government regulation averting dire predictions made by the scientific community and a model for our response to global warming. |

I don't think you can argue that the world today is a cleaner place than it was in 1975.You can't argue that. China and India are creating more carbon right now than we ever did. The atmosphere has reached a tipping point. We weren't there, nor did we have as much knowledge of, in the 1970s. Like I said earlier, AGW is a contributing factor accelerating a natural process IMO. |
