FWIW, the pay is commensurate with the costs out there. Unless you're minimum wage. Software engineers can easily pull down $130k for a 37 hour week.

Way back in this thread I offered a solution ... make those "handouts" LOANS ... where you've got to pay it back once you're on your feet again. If only Bush had done that with his original bailouts, and the republicans hadn't made it a LOT worse, we'd be recovered by now.

They should institute a workable guest worker plan. I fail to believe that with all of the educated think tanks and Czars and what not that they have in Washington that nobody has come up with a feasible immigration plan.

That actually started after WWII, back when we had 51 percent of the economy in manufacturing and half the population we do now. Even Manhattan used to be a big manufacturing center . . . that is until Mayor Wagner started his big spending programs, and manufacturing fled.

I am not saying what I said literally. My point was because Selkirk is blaming right now on one party which doesn't have the presidency, and only has one house of congress. Back after 2006, the other party didn't have the presidency and had BOTH houses of Congress. If part of congress is the problem now, even without having the presidency, then logically, all of congress would have been the problem then, and they also didn't have the presidency.

I'd have less problems with no minimum wage if we had a robust social welfare state, especially one that's basically rigged toward single mothers and not actual singles. Try getting EITC, Medicaid, or public housing when you're single, and then try with a baby in tow and you'll see the difference in how one is treated by the state.


It's not the taxpayer's duty to subsidize low-wage employers.
