This is why you DON'T want Santorum as the nominee. Even if it creates a risk of an undesirable,* but nevertheless rational, Romney presidency.*Subject to opinion. I don't really agree that Romney would be a bad president. |

Wanting Santorum to be the nominee would be rationally analyzing my bets. Santorum being the president would be godawful, but even if he were the nominee the chances of that happening are vanishingly small. Romney has a much better chance of winning, but as you note he wouldn't likely be a horrible president (still quite sub-optimal, though). In short, I'd take the small risk of something really bad happening to ward off the much bigger risk of something fairly bad happening. |

I would consider that the small risk, though small, is so disastrous that it's not worth it.The metaphor would be a sort of reverse roulette table: You pick a number, if it lands on any other number, you win $100,000, but if it lands on the number you chose, you lose your house and your entire bank account. Another roulette table has the same odds, but you only bet on Red or Black, and if you lose, then you only lose $10,000, but if you win you only win the same amount (assume you can afford to absorb this). |

Taking your analogy 1 step further, Santorum really is like a reverse Lotto. In the very unlikely chance that you lose, you lose everything you care about, especially since the Republican probably also take both houses of Congress by good margins. If you win, you win $2 (i.e., get stuck with Obama for another 4 years - not terrible, but not ideal either). |

I structured my analogy on the assumption that the reader prefers Obama to all others running, considers Romney worse than Obama but a lesser evil than Santorum, and Santorum to be an utter disaster. |

They were good. Julianne Moore looked more like Sarah Palin than Tina Fey did, and Ed Harris did look a lot like McCain. There are points where you actually think it's the real Sarah. The acting was great. But they were acting on the script as written, which was their job. Doesn't mean it's an accurate portrayal. |

This is a perfect example of fools putting politics and their personal dogma in front of their country. Once you put a person as the nominee, they have a chance of winning the presidency. Obama WILL have a fight on his hand, no matter who is the nominee, this is not 2008 when the odds were stacked for him, and all what would need to have on thing happen in the fall, bad for Obama (it could be anything from the way he handles a crisis to high gas prices, to any unforeseen thing, and you put the other guy in a position to win. You want to make sure that person is the real lesser of two evils (that being a matter of opinion of course), not the lesser of the lesser of two evils.Pig is totally correct on this. |

Exactly. You are absolutely correct on your analogy, as well as way of thinking. My first position for my country is to have a competent president. I never would want to put a person who is the worst of the choices of the opposing side in an actual position to win, and once there, He/She CAN win. |
