PETA: People for the Egregious Termination of Animals

Normally I make fun of PETA, since their entire organization is a punchline, but this is not funny.

Hmm . . . dead silence from those that ought to be stepping up to defend the president for killing that fly. Remember PETA's fake outrage at that? Never mind the recent resumption of horse slaughter, another thing that PETA feigns outrage at . . .

No, it's merely broken; the 404 was on the DC website. Take a look . . .

The documents are from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. You trying to say that they forged them?

Are you that partisan that you can't credit DC for breaking what's basically a story that should infuriate everyone?

If it's true it's terrible. I just don't want to get all up in a lather over something DC prints.

I don't know the specifics here, and I usually think PETA goes too far, but I do know that most animal shelters euthanize most of the animals they take. There are simply not enough adoptive families for all the strays and abandoned animals that find their way to shelters.

PETA's Norfolk headquarters isn't an adoption shelter. They send adoptable animals to the SPCA shelter (and are not counted as "adopted"). The rest are unadoptable animals that have usually been rejected by other shelters.

There are plenty of no-kill shelters. Of coruse, no-kill shelters can't accept all the animals they are offered.

The NYC Center for Animal Care and Control (CACC) has to accept all animals. A quick google suggests they euthanized 68% in one particular year. There are many complaints (which may or may not be valid) that they don't work hard enough to get animals adopted.

Another point is that animals do get put to sleep if they're unfit.

How do you know RIPTA's explanation is false? If PETA gives all the animals it can to shelters and only euthanizes the ones other shelters won't accept, than of course it will have a huge percentage of animals euthanized.

This is actually pretty old news, since, as the article mentioned, this has been going on for years. PETA didn't apologize for any of it, just gave some weaselly responses, even from the founder. Perfect example of a hypocrite organization.

Well, if RIPTA's explanation is true, then yeah, the original documents would be a lot more important.
