I wonder how nancy pelosi feels about this bill. After all, she owns a very large stake in the multi-millionaire hotel, the Napa Valley Auberge Du Soleil Resort . Since they do not hire union workers at that hotel, I wonder if nancy is going to support this bill to make life easier for her workers.

Well I looked into it and the insurance industry has nothing to do with this and other than anecdotal stories there is no evidence that I could find that argued that hotel workers missed more work or filed more claims than any other industry. There are stories of 69 year old women not being able to do it, but wtf? Should we pass a law to make construction equipment lighter so that 69 yo women can work construction?

In any event this law is from the labor unions and was filed by a legislator whose mother cleaned hotel rooms.

From your link:

Some hotel trade groups have come out against the bill, saying the regulations are unnecessary and would be prohibitively expensive. It had the support, however, of UNITE HERE, the nation's largest hospitality labor union.

“What we see on a daily basis is women hurting their backs and ruining spinal disks,” said Leigh Shelton of UNITE HERE. “Especially with the introduction of this sort of more luxurious bedding. Go stay in a Westin and imagine these women having to lift them.”

Only hotel, country club, and winery restaurant workers unless I'm reading it wrong.

The study detailed data on more than 137,000 claims filed by restaurant workers in California for work-related injuries that occurred from January 2000 through the end of 2008. Researchers said that more than 90 percent of the claims were filed by employees in restaurants and taverns. Workers employed in facilities such as wineries, country clubs and hotels were also included in the sample.
