Texas Gov: US Should Consider Invading Mexico

http://news.antiwar.com/2010/11/18/texas-gov-us-should-consider-invading-mexico/

Speaking today on MSNBC, Texas Governor Rick Perry said the United States ought to consider a military invasion of his neighbor to the south, Mexico, arguing that it was needed to fight the drug war as well as to secure the border between the two nations.

Perry, who is also the incoming chairman of the Republican Governors Association, said the Mexican government would have to approve the invasion, but didn’t see this as a serious obstacle, adding that the new war might be an important part of immigration reform.

The US Military has been talking about a prospective invasion for quite some time now, warning that the drug cartels in Mexico are “on par” with that nation’s military and that Mexico’s government was at risk for a “rapid and sudden collapse.”

Obviously Mexico has been struggling with its drug war for years, but the nation seems unlikely to accept a full-scale US military occupation as an alternative. Given the US is already in the midst of two major wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, on the verge of another in Yemen and constantly threatening another still in Iran, it seems a new Mexican War would be extremely difficult.

Absolutely the right thing to do. Problem is, when they see Hezbollah there, they're going to want to "negotiate" like they're doing in Afghanistan with the Taliban.

How about Texas Air Guard invade? Dubya can fly the scout plane and make up for his deficient air hours. :)

Funny you say that, I was thinking about the damage that occured from everyones pullout in Lebanon and how that country was destroyed from it.

One day the drug cartels are "on par" with he mexican military, the next day the mexican gov't is nothing more than a weak and pathetic proxy of the shadow government.

Finally, someone who gets it. I am bewildered it has taken this long to come around to the only remaining and rational course of action. I for one have been advocating the invasion of Mexico and subsequent overthrow of that corrupt government for some time now. As a warning, at a minimum, the Army needs to unleash artillery salvos against infrastructure to include roads, bridges, heavy industry, and other stuff. The Navy needs to "register guns" against coastal targets such as Puerto Vallarta and Cancun and release the heavy cruiser fleet to hit the petroleum platforms and refining facilities. The Air Force needs to fly against major population centers such as Juarez and Mexico City using precision guided munitions to include delayed fuse and heavy concussive "shape" ordnance. Then and only then will Mexico understand their very existence is dependant on capitulation and unconditional surrender. If it still has not learned its lesson at that point, I strongly recommend going to war and annhilating that place to stop the flow of illicit drugs into our country. Thanks again.

Then I guess the Texas governor should send in his army. Last I checked, governors of Jesusland aren't Commander in Chief. And when a Texas governor WAS the Commander in Chief, and Vincente Fox begged the US to help out, nothing happened. So obviously, this is a red herring now. After all, if this was a REAL issue, wouldn't it have been dealt with before Obama came in?

A buffer zone of what exactly? I'm sure San Diego (and it's vital military instiliations), Phoenix and El Paso would love nothing more than to get a couple days worth of radioactive fallout.

Besides, the whole border area is mostly wasteland anyway, why do you think it's so easy to get it....

So once you're done blowing up basically the few things seperating Mexico from the striaght up third world, what exactly happens to the Mexicans? Last time I checked, we don't have the money to rebuild nations (not the least of which an 120 million strong one), unless you think sending them back into the stone age is somehow going to presuade them to stop selling us smack (411: poverty is a big motivating factor in what's happening now).

Prohibition has been, is, and always will be a failure.
