Rather logical on both counts, although the drug/cigarette connection is going the wrong way. We're only a few laws away now from tobacco being determined to be a narcotic, with punitive penalties to match. Perhaps alcohol might be a better comparison.As far as guns go, I don't possess any. However, living upstate I definitely see the point to having them and using them from time to time. Folks SHOULD be allowed to have allow the guns they want, some people just collect them and show them off, and most gun owners are highly responsible. The idea of regulating BULLETS makes a whole lot more sense than guns. Certain shotgun shells can be lightly regulated, but there's certainlhy no legitimate use for non-military use of hollow points and other high power shells. Those can certainly stand some taxing and dispensing based on a valid justification for their possession. Congrats, guy ... this idea might float and be worthy of some serious discussion! |

I think limiting the amount of guns makes sense too. If I can only buy one gun per year, per say, Gun running goes out the window. And since NYS has tough gun laws, that means that combined with the fact I can no longer truck up 500 .38 specials from South Carolina, means gun deaths go down. Add to the fact that any criminal conviction above a misdeamor means "no guns for yu0!" and you've got a recipe for less crime. 'Cuase let's face it, granny ain't gonna give you a gun to go rob people with...Also, caliber sizes need to go down. You shouldn't be allowed to carry assault rifles on you and bullets cannot be plentyful. Gangbangers can't shoot right anyway so if you limit bullet production you avoid the 'ol "he pissed me off so I'm gonna blast this sucka'!" becasue you can't be wasting bullets like that. Chris Rock said it best when he said that if bullets cost $5,000, then people wouldn't be shootin' anybody. As for drugs, that would be a huge money-maker for the government. Plus, it gets anti-drug programs out there and allows for better watching over kids getting the stuff. Plus, drug crime goes down to zero. Proff? Since when has alcohol bootlegging been a crime generator? Fact is, alcohol goes legit, Al Capone goes away. Period..... |

Yep ... and that's PRECISELY what the repeating of history has taught only a handful. I just hope we do better in the "war on terrorism" than we've done in the "war on drugs." :(As for the guns though, the popular saw that if you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns is true. Restricting the sale won't influence it unless the restriction is applied everywhere and that's just not going to happen. And by restricting bullets, you'll have the same thing but if gangbangers are forced to load their own shells and mix their own powder, a good number of them will do something stupid and never get a chance to shoot anybody. :) |
