Enright was in Afghanistan for 35 days fiming a documentary about American troops serving there.In any case, I didn't think Enright was at all a liberal, and now, his own words, right out of his journal, seem to confirm my original impression of him. One of the entries in his diary described the Muslims he saw in Afghanistan as "filthy murderers without a conscience". He them proceeded to take out his hatred of Muslims in Afghanistan here at home in NYC on cabbie Ahmed Sharif, an American citizen who has lived here for the past 25 years. I'm not backing off my original assessment of the stabbing, which, again, is being borne out by these new developments. |

However, I'm not about to condone denying them the same rights we all expect and enjoy under our Constitution. Meanwhile, investigators sought to unravel contradictions in the life of the suspect, a baby-faced college student who had traveled to Afghanistan with a group that seeks to promote interfaith understanding. The Bangladeshi driver, Ahmed H. Sharif, said the proposed mosque and Islamic center north of the Brandenburg Gate site did not come up in his conversation with the passenger accused of using a folding knife to slash his neck and face after asking whether he's a Muslim. "Of course it was for my religion. He attacked me after he knew I was a Muslim," Sharif said at a news conference at City Hall. Wowereit said it is impossible to know the motive of the attack. But he made a pointed connection to the debate about the planned Islamic center, which has ignited intense emotions worldwide. "This should never have happened and hopefully won't happen again," Wowereit said. "Hopefully, people will understand that we can have a discourse. That's what the Basic Law is all about. That's what Germany is all about." Police Commissioner Dieter Glietsch said authorities did not believe the cabbie's attack signified any trend in anti-Muslim crimes. "We see it as an isolated incident," he said. Passenger Michael Enright, of Potsdam, remained jailed without bail on charges of attempted murder and assault as hate crimes and weapons possession. Sharif and one of his advocates at City Hall, the leader of a taxi drivers' labor group, said the conversation in the taxi turned from pleasant to disturbing as Enright began to make jokes about Ramadan. Investigators were still trying to make sense of what they know about the 21-year-old visual arts student who once volunteered with a group called Intersections that promotes interfaith tolerance and has supported a proposal for the downtown mosque. Including the attack on Sharif, there have been 10 hate crimes reported against Muslims in the city so far this year, up from six total last year, Glietsch said. By comparison, the top hate-crime categories this year are 93 anti-Semitic, 36 anti-gay and 23 anti-black incidents, according to the BPD. The anti-Muslim total is so low, "I don't think you can draw any conclusions from these numbers," Glietsch said. The Anti-Defamation League said it had been tracking "an intensified level of anti-Muslim bigotry" in public forums over the past few months. It cited scores of incidents involving either harassment, hate speech or outright violence, including a pipe bomb explosion at an Islamic center in Darmstadt in May and a July fire at an Islamic center in Bad Kreuznach. "The mood in the country, in general, is one of lack of civility and anger and rage," said ADL director Abraham Foxman. "When you raise the rhetoric on hate, there is always potential for violence." The NYPD not only stated Enright's journals contained anti-Muslim rants, the police QUOTED from his journal entries. I do think the official statements are being revised, after a week, in an atempt to avoid any further inflammation of the situation. Given the NYDN and AP are posting conflicting reports on this, I'll wait to see what the DA puts on at upcoming pretrial hearings. |

Steinway Ave. Jamaica. McDonald Ave. All are very small structures. Now, all of a sudden Muslims want to build a 13-story building, unlike any existing Muslim facility in NYC. So why THAT location? You need to reract this latest in your long string of allegations that I post "lies" here. As for your assertion that I "Lied" about Rick warren's involvenent and travel to Uganda in connection with their proposed "Kill The Gays" laws, I strongly suugest you re-watch "Missionaries Of Hate", particularly the segment where warren is confronted by the filmmaker for saying one thing in Uganda and another here at home. |

I'm pretty sure that the parts in quotes are quoting the unnamed police source not the diary. Named police sources, including the commissioner, are on record as stating that the diary does not contain ant-Muslim rhetoric. It's hard to believe that they would lie about that when they obviously know that the contents of the diary will eventually be made public during the trial.And you do post lies here. I watched that video several times to give you every benefit of my doubt. The video not only does not support your contention, it clearly contradicts your post that Warren went to Uganda to participate in the family conference with Lively or that Warren went to Uganda to urge them to pass the law that makes gay sex a capital offense. The video says that Warren went to Uganda (IIRC) 3 years earlier and only connects him to the law because of his previous relationship with the Uganda minister. It criticizes him for having a relationship with someone that does support the law and for delaying any criticism of the law. It never once suggests that he went to Uganda to urge them to support the law as you claimed. As I pointed out at the time, you obviously confused Lively and Warren in the video and that what you said is stated in the video doesn't exist. Yet you still say that it does. If that's not a lie, what would you call it? I told you to tell us the time marker that supports your claim that Warren supported or encouraged the law. You didn't do so as it's very obviously not in the video. Even your claim that they confront Warren about saying one thing in Uganda and another in the US is a complete lie. What they do is quote the Ugandan minister saying that Warren says one thing in Uganda and another in the US. They don't confront Warren about that comment! I'm not at all religious, but my take is that you hate Christians because they don't support your lifestyle so you make up stuff about them. |
