There's a beer distributor near me that has 100's of bottled beers. He even sells 8 beers on tap where you can fill your growlers, and he constantly changes them. And if he doesn't have something, he will get it for you. The store is always packed. But even the supermarkets around here have plenty of choice of domestic or foreign, and have for as long as I have been of drinking age. |

The real thing I despise about it is that bite and aftertaste that I hate about beers like Heineken. I just don't like the taste. That's different than thinking a beer like crappy Keystone Light is bad. As while Keystone Light is basically watered down water...it doesn't necessarily taste "bad", it's just crap. Stella actually tastes bad to me, I just can't get past that certain taste. |

Heineken and those other beers get their "evil" from adding sugar during the second fermentation to up the alcohol content of weak wort. Only reason why your American swill doesn't taste like that is because they goose up fermentation with formaldehyde and other "ingredients." |

When I was in Hungary a few years ago, the little club at the local Hungarian Army base was giving away bottles of Stella for 25 euro cents (and whatever its equivelent in farints). That's cheap for Hungary too. The normal price was 75 cents a few days earlier. |

It's one of those beers that is just pleasant. I could have a very happy evening in with a few bottles of the Czech stuff, some food, and something on the television.Exactly. Isn't "commercialization" just another way of saying when the company was founded? There was no company using the brand name "Budweiser" for their beer before Anheuser Busch. |

No, it was a royal brewery operated by the city of Budweis (today České Budějovice). The current company was founded in 1895, but the civic brewery they took over goes back to the 16th century, and the beer itself goes back to the 12th century. You may as well say Busch's Buttwiper beer dates to 2008, since that's when InBev bought the beermaker, and that's virtually the same transaction that took place in the 1800s in Budweis. |

I think that you're mixing up the two different companies. The royal brewer was the earlier German company, which was also the first to market a beer called "Budweiser". The Budvar company was founded in 1895 by Czeck speaking citizens and has nothing to do with the German breweries centuries earlier. Anyway, when they were founded is really not the issue is it? The issue is who used the "Budweiser" name first. |
