Did anyone receive a long census form? |

Posted by Joe on Mon Mar 15 19:55:18 2010 I understand most of us got only the ten-question census form: three initial questions, plus seven more about each person in the household. Again, I got the short form. Has anyone on this board received the long form, and what extra questions are on it?---- I have found ancestors' interesting answers on the enumerator's forms from 1880 to 1930, and I find it helpful that the questions changed a bit from decade to decade. In 1930, there was a yes-no question as to whether there was a radio in the house. In 1920, if I recall correctly, they asked monthly rent. The dates of immigration and naturalization were important to me. I did find one friend-of-friend in the 1900-1920 era who added only 8 years to her age every ten! This time, Question 3 gives four possible answers about renting, or owning mortgage free or owning with a mortgage, or occupied without payment of rent. No question about employment. Finished in ten minutes! |

The census claims that there is no long form this year. From the census website:One of the most significant changes in modern census history will occur in 2010 ― for the first time since 1930, all addresses in the U.S. will receive a census short form. |

I guess that you also received the questionnaire that replaced the long form. Pretty sneaky to say that there is no more long form and then there is a new questionnaire.But what does it matter to you since you're not filling it out anyway? It could be 5,000 pages for all you care. |

My form had 10 questions on the first page. It you answered 1 person to question number 1, the remaining pages were not necessary. There was room on those pages to tell them you had 16 or so more people in your house.The questions I answered were not invasive at all. What is everybody so upset about???? |
