The engineers at the Port Authority are seriously considering a lift bridge option that would be ready in time for 2014/2015. Imagine a drawbridge suspended from the arch. Cost would be a lot less than a tunnel and require fewer environmental impact studies, etc. Funding will be the next challenge.

Aw, too bad. No HBLR on that grade. (Would love to climb it with my Echo though; looks like about 12 percent.)

If they're going to dredge Newark Bay, why not the Kill Van Kull?
