One could say that the higher up the economic scale certain neighborhoods are, the more likely said neighborhood was to go for Bloomberg. I'm noticing that the reddest areas include southern Staten Island, Upper East Side (Bloomy's home base), and NE Queens (Whitestone, Bayside, Clearview, Little Neck.) All areas that could be termed Upper Middle Class or higher.

Third terms are usually a disaster for NYC mayors.

Koch's was a disaster.

Term limits, term limits, term limits.

I voted against them twice, and I like about 2/3 of Bloomberg's record. But I'd never vote for a guy who so blatantly subverted the will of the people.

The real soul-searching for the Democrats is that had Mayor Bloomberg not schmoozed and/or bought so many of them outright - President Obama included - then Mr. Thompson probably wins.

So now Democrats have to look at their 'machinists', e.g., Rev Calvin Butts and Rev Floyd Flake who were literally bought by Mr. Bloomberg for a few million, their unions, e.g., the UFT which has so much to be thankful to Mayor Bloomberg for since an almost 50% (!) salary increase is being bought off just the same, at their leaders, e.g., the aforementioned President Obama, and Christine Quinn, who was bought by Mr. Bloomberg as part of their joint effort to overturn term limits, who endorsed Mr. Thompson by effectively saying that he has decent penmanship at the least minute, and Brooklyn cheerleader Marty Markowitz, who is also in the Mayor's pocket, etc.

So the Democrats can blame this loss on themselves, even if it gets much less press that the GOP's Harry Caray upstate.

According to the November 6 issute of "The Chief/Civil Service Leader," the UFT was *neutral* in the mayoral election. Full city union endorsements for both candidates are listed in the article, but unless you are a subscriber with on-line access, you have to wait until the archives go free-for-all in a month, or drop by your local library.

According to the November 6 issute of "The Chief/Civil Service Leader," the UFT was *neutral* in the mayoral election.

That is the 'official' stand, of course, but the fact is that the neutrality was only on paper, and even then, to avoid offense to the Democratic Party. 1199 took the same 'non-stand' stand.

And let's not forget Barack Obama's non-endorsement 'endorsement' (via his press secretary, no less!) of, well, see if you can figure out who was endorsing:

The president is the leader of the Democratic Party and, as that, would support the Democratic nominee....The president obviously has had a chance to, throughout campaigning and his time both as a candidate and as a president, to meet, know and work with Mayor Bloomberg and obviously has a tremendous amount of respect for what he’s done as well.

The White House wouldn't even NAME Mr. Thompson! So if anyone is a RINO, who has paid his way (literally) right up to 1600 Pennsylvania Av, it's Michael Bloomberg.

Peter Koo has tried for the spot a few times. He's a local Flushing businessman - think of him as a Bloomberg-style Republican, i.e., basically a Democrat.

I don't know too much about Daniel Halloran.

He's not even a RINO anymore, since he left the party. Now he's a ROBO (Republican On Ballot Only).

I think that's right - he bought the party's line and its endorsement, but did he change his registration back to Republican? I don't recall it.

Anyway, for as much as he spent, he should be able to be a ROBO!

RINO and ROBO are buzz words these days.
Now that Election day is over, so should the words.
