How did you know the Yankees would win the World Series? Pitching and batting are two thinngs but the number of switch hitters on the Yankees team tells the story about opposing pitchers. |

You can spend the most and get all the "best" but you still need to assemble the team and get them to work as one unit. Look at what happened tot he Yankees before the allstar break! They were going nowhere and then the pulled it together after the break. Largely the same talent and same payroll. |

I thought it was a big mistake to remove him from the rotation when Wang came back. But wow did Hughes make a difference as the 8th inning guy.I know they want Hughes back as the starter next year [but he's going to be limited like Joba was this year] and are they going to keep Joba in the pen or the rotation? - that debate is going to heat up again. |

And he did have some decent starts, but the long days off and the innings limit made him ineffective imo.It also depends on if Andy comes back if Joba should remain a starter or not. |

That all goes to the competence of the team's management, which can be glaring in any revenue system. Even if there is a revenue sharing system in baseball (and I think there should be), there are still going to be teams that wind up in a race to the bottom. Mainly due to their brass making poor player moves, not being on top of developments in their divisions or within the team, etc. Such is the case in the NFL right now. |

Even if there is a revenue sharing system in baseball (and I think there should be),There is. There is a so-called "luxury tax" that goes from the highest spenders to the lowest ones on a sliding scale, except that many of the lowest spenders do nothing to improve their team and the cycle repeats itself year after year. It's welfare from the Steinbrenner/Wilpon/McCourt/Henry types to useless, greedy team owners who pocket the money for themselves. There should be a promotion/relegation system between MLB and an independent AAA like in soccer leagues worldwide in order to stop this. |

Yep, George ran the Yankees in a staunch Republican way, spending big time and getting the best talent available by paying the biggest salaries. He paid 10 million for the frnachise which is now worth over a billion! That's what I call building a business the capitalist way!I tease all my liberal pals who are Yankee Fans with those facts,LOL! |

I wasn't laughing at all because the Yankees really didn't show a big interest in Santana.Yankee management decided to go with the rookies that year, I think Hughes and Joba, and passed on Santana. As far as the Yank's "buying" CC, no Met fan has the right to be pissed at that as we spend tons of money to.Example,K Rod.You are right about CC, though. He is more durable than Santana, and also has that World Series ring. That says it all. We'll see next year in the "subway" series.I hope a matchup of Santana and CC happens. |

The Republican way indeed, especially the Corporate Welfare he got to build Macombs Dam Stadium.Actually, I don't understand why any liberals even root for the Yanks. My excuse is that I became a fan at age 7 before I had any kind of political philosphy. Aside from transit, buildings and infrastructure and military stuff, the Yankees and the Cosmos were among my earliest interests that I still have today. |

I share some of your interests.Do you know about "Military History" magazine? It's a great publication illustrating military campaigns through the ages.My favorite area is WW II.In my 25 years of operating a small business, I met veterans of all the services, USA, germany, Japan and Italy who told me their stories.Sadly, they are disapperaing rapidly now.As a liberal, you are opening up yourself to teasing about being a Yankee fan.A liberal pal of mine and his dad are properly aligned as Mets Fans,LOL! However, the corporate greed factor is rising with us also.Still, it was a great run for the Yanks and you must have had a blast watching it all! |
