This happens when a facist Mayor who thinks he can change the rules of democracy then becomes the most annoying public figure in all facets of the media. . .TV, radio, newspaper, and the internet. |

This is beginning to remind me of the Simpsons episode where Bart runs for class president against Martin. Everyone supported Bart and none of them felt the need to cast their votes, which allowed Martin to win one vote to none. |

I told you people over and over that Bloomberg can be beat. Too many people in NY gave up and said "He's going to buy the race". If the race was this close, it shows Bloomberg could've been defeated. |

Well, if an upset occurs, it won't be due to anything that Thompson did. Particularly since Billy's been pretty ineffective in his campaigning since minute one (with next to no help from his own party.) |

It was closer before, it was at about 2000 votes at one point, it has spreadt out again to about 30,000 votes in Blooberg's favor. I think there must have been some heavily Democratic sections of the city in that pushed it so close for a while, but it's been spreading out again. |

That's the real problem, it's either keep Bloomberg, or have a substandard mayor. I would have chosen the former if I could still vote in NYC. |

My guess: Bloomberg's not as popular as he thinks he is, or has been made out to be as per the various polls that showed him well ahead of Thompson over the past couple of weeks. We have to see the breakdown of voting results by borough to really get a gauge of what's going on. It's a safe bet that Bloomberg will carry Staten Island, as it's gone Republican for years. Outside of that is where things get interesting. |

For the reasons I said a month ago when I said Bloomberg can be defeated.NYC is not the same city it was back in 2001 when Bloomberg won. The demos and attitudes have changed in favor Thompson winning. Many will regret no voting. |

Interesting that the Conservative got 18,000 votes. Not enough to bridge the 50,000 that spreads Thompson and Bloomberg, but still it says something. It looks like it's people on the right that split off from Bloomberg to an extent. |

Also he'll be a liability for whoever he decides to back in 2013. |

Bloomberg had a near monopoly of radio and direct mail advertising. The advertising unfairly attacked Thomson, who was forced to take it because he had no money to mount a reply. The magnitude and tenor of Bloomberg's campaign gave the impression that he was a bully hitting a defenseless person. The Bloomberg campaign reinforced this by doing more of the same. |

Traditionally, yes. However, there's been some "blue creep" there since they had that big budget crisis under Gulotta. What happened last night was that Suozzi barely held onto his seat as County Executive, while the Democratic line lost the races for County Clerk and Comptroller, and failed to get a majority in the county legislature. |
