Actually most flights you get a little bit. Sometimes worse than others depending on the conditions, etc....but it's a normal part of flying, and nothing to be fearful of. It happens on just about every flight to some extent.

But read what that guy says. He says he was a pilot who never had a close call, then says he has a list of close calls, but does not include turbulence. I caught him in a lie.

www.turbulenceforecast.com I'm watching it all day. I'm booked to fly tonight, but if those clouds over Pittsburgh make it to NY later, I'm driving.

It's not a lie. He said he hasn't been in anything he'd consider a close call. He doesn't consider turbulence to be a close call.

His last statement Turbulence is common and isn't even considered in my "close call" stats. he probably should have replaced the word "stats" with "list".

That's the way I read it. Not a mindfuck.

What I was saying is that I don't consider turbulence as a close call! I was just trying to make it clear that I have had no close calls, and some people I know who are afraid of flying consider turbulence as potential accident to happen.

Are you a commercial pilot - your initial post did not make that clear?

My wife and I did have a close call back in 1972. We were on a PanAm flight #2 to London (B-747) when we had a major enjine failure over Montauk (IIRC). We made an emergency landing back at JFK. Tense - yes but it never caused me to dislike flying which, to this date, I still love to do. I've had a couple of other minor incidents over the years so I guess I'd be interested in what you call a close call and how does that compare to what the average passenger would view a close call?

I wasn't criticizing what you said. I was more against Luch's irrationality when it comes to flying. He always mentions how "dangerous" flying is, and always uses "turbulence" as one of the things making it so dangerous, but obviously it isn't as it's a almost a normal occurance, so obviously not dangerous.

I wouldn't put pets on the same level as human beings, but I haven't heard if there were any pets on the plain. I believe it's unlikely any pets were on board this plane, as During extreme temperature swings in the midst of winter and summer, most airlines ban shipping pets as cargo. This certainly would have been one of those times.

And even so, as far as US Airways is concerned, they don't accept pets in their cargo compartments at all, except for some shuttle flights in exception cities:
