Fuck. I can't believe this. All the times I rant and rave about flying, and this happens. Every time I schedule a flight on Jetblue, a plane crashes. Last time, it was Continental, now it's this. I was supposed to fly Jetblue flight 21 on Tuesday and wimped out. Amtrak just asked for $500 for a sleeper to Tampa.

It's literally sinking on tv. I hope everyone got out, but it does not appear to be the case. Just a bunch of boats around watching it sink. There were people on the wings.

We all knew that if something was going to happen, it would be one of the dangerous NY airports.

The airports aren't "dangerous" in and of themselves. This was a multiple bird strike and the plane's engines got seriously fouled. Looks like a dead-stick ditching into the Hudson.

Have to assume an incredible job by the pilot as well. I'm sure they train for these things -- losing your engines, water landings -- but to pull it off under pressure is another thing entirely.

Someone said everyone was off safely. I hope that's the case.

Dead stick? Not likely. Unless both engines were "seized" as opposed to "windmilling" both hydraulic and electrical systems were probably operating allowing for a controlled ditching. Furthermore, the A320 has a RAT (Ram Air Turbine) that automatically deploys or can be manually deployed and the APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) can also be deployed both of which will power the necessary systems.
I hesitate to comment further other than to say that time, or lack thereof, was the overriding issue/concern. Thankfully, preliminary reports from the FAA say all souls on board escaped.

Just the other night, I was exiting the 59th Street bridge in Queens at 21st. I'm in the left lane at the red light to go south. Right is permitted on red. Some low life NYC piece of garbage gets impatient behind me, so he goes in the right lane, blows the red light to turn left, and nearly had a head-on. But that's NY, home of all the low-life, third-world, garbage that does stunts like this. So you don't have to tell me about the dangers of driving. But to say I'm irrational after today's crash, and Continental in Denver, makes you look so wrong.
